We still don't know if Gerwig will ever have a genuine breakthrough; that said, she's earning most of the praise here.

Frances (Greta Gerwig) lives in New York, but she doesn't really have an apartment. Frances is an apprentice for a dance company, but shes not really a dancer. Frances has a best friend named Sophie, but they aren't really speaking anymore. Frances throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as their possible reality dwindles. Frances wants so much more than she has but lives her life with unaccountable joy and lightness. The guys who helped populate the Twilight universe have at least a few years of job offers coming their respective ways, and Kellan Lutz is saying yes to as many as he can while he's still under 30 and tight-bodied. Solely going off of Java Heat's incredibly confusing trailer, we're thinking Lutz's reunion with his Immortals co star Mickey Rourke might make that movie seem worthy of a Criterion Collection release in comparison. Thing is: he was rather good in Generation Kill and I hope some filmmakers remember that.

At a time when relations between the West and Islam are dangerously tense, Java Heat opens amidst the aftermath of a terrorist attack in Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim nation. Java Heat centers on Jake (Lutz), a reckless American tough guy who becomes embroiled in the turmoil ensuing the attacks, which killed the country's much beloved Sultana. Jake is bent on vengeance but quickly finds the world a more complicated place than he can solve with violence alone. Lost among labyrinths of religious, political and cultural havoc, Jake must ally with cerebral Muslim detective Hashim (rising Indonesian star Ario Bayu), who handles Jake more like a suspect than a partner. The uneasy friendship leads to a treacherous man hunt for the attack's real instigator, a new breed of klepto terrorist (Rourke), who is even more twisted and terrifying than the Jihadist terrorists he hides behind.

When it comes to Leonardo DiCaprio reteaming with Baz Luhrmann to interpret F. Scott Fitzgerald's second-best novel, I often think that the people who have the power to green light (Gatsby reference) major projects aren't necessarily the best fit to star in them. Or act as their director. As respected as he aims to be, Leonardo DiCaprio is at his least effective handling serious drama Luhrmann, with all of his mega budget entitlement, has bewitched the industry, but let's see how his latest epic plays out in terms of audience appeal.

"The Great Gatsby" follows Fitzgerald like, would be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton).

It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

The movie based on the adventures of Norwegian ethnographer and explorer Thor Heyerdal faced the seemingly impossible task of facing Amour in the Best Foreign Language Oscar race. Now off the awards circuit, this well received new project can stand on its own merits. Co directors Joachim Rönning and Espen Sandberg are set to make a Hollywood project next with a script currently titled Spectral.

Kon-Tiki was the name of a tiny balsa wood raft, constructed by Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl. It was Heyerdahl's contention that pre Columbian Polynesian natives had regularly made trips across the ocean in similar rafts. To prove his theory, Heyerdahl set sail in the Kon-Tiki in 1947, successfully completing a 4300 mile journey from Peru to Tahiti. Filmed en route with 16 millimeter camera equipment, Kon Tiki was originally released in Sweden in tandem with the publication of Heyerdahl's book about the expedition. The English language version, narrated by sportscaster Ben Grauer, was prepared by producer Sol Lesser and distributed by RKO Radio.
